Resumen

Los postulados de Guillermo ODonnell sobre los procesos políticos de transición han tenido un impacto directo en el análisis de los Estados árabes poscoloniales: tanto desde espacios académicos de los países centrales como del mundo árabe se ha recurrido al llamado paradigma de la transición para explicar la evolución y perspectivas de los regímenes árabes autocráticos. Esta literatura ha sido utilizada para el abordaje de las realidades de los Estados de Oriente Próximo de los últimos treinta años, especialmente las de aquellos donde el actor militar ocupó un lugar trascendente en el esquema político, como en los casos de Egipto, Siria y Turquía. Recientemente, los diversos levantamientos en el Mundo árabe reavivaron nuevamente el interés por estos enfoques, recibiendo así la obra de ODonnell una renovada consideración. Este artículo pretende acercarse a algunos de estos espacios de interacción y circulación de ideas entre América Latina y el mundo árabe-islámico, con una dedicación especial al trabajo de Nazih Ayubi, Política y Sociedad en Oriente Próximo. La hipertrofia del estado árabe (1998), una de las primeras y más sistemáticas relecturas y apropiaciones de la obra de ODonnell para el estudio de los Estados de Oriente Medio.
