Author Guidelines

Studia Politicæ welcomes original and unpublished contributions in Political Science, International Relations, and related fields.

The journal does not charge any submission, evaluation, processing, or publication fees.

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the journal’s OJS platform. Submissions sent by email will not be considered.

Types of contributions

The journal accepts the following types of submissions:

  • research articles;
  • theoretical, conceptual, interpretive, or critical essays;
  • book reviews;
  • contributions to thematic issues when a specific call for papers is open.

Each manuscript must comply with the requirements of the selected section.

1. Originality and exclusive submission

Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under simultaneous consideration by another journal, book, or academic publication.

When a manuscript derives from a thesis, conference paper, working paper, preprint, or any previously circulated version, this must be disclosed in the “Comments for the Editor” field.

Submission of a manuscript implies that all authors:

  • are aware of and approve the submitted version;
  • agree with the declared order of authorship;
  • acknowledge each contributor’s role;
  • disclose the existence or absence of conflicts of interest;
  • report all sources of funding, where applicable.

2. Language

The journal accepts manuscripts written in Spanish, English, or Portuguese.

All manuscripts must include a title, abstract, and keywords in the main language of the article and in English.

When the article is written in English, it must also include a title, abstract, and keywords in Spanish.

When the article is written in Portuguese, it must include a title, abstract, and keywords in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

3. Author information

Personal information must not be included in the main manuscript file, since articles and essays are evaluated through a double-anonymous peer-review process.

  • email address;
  • ORCID identifier;
  • country;
  • full institutional affiliation;
  • city and country of the institution;

The title must be clear, informative, and consistent with the content of the manuscript.

It must be provided in Spanish and English, as well as in the original language where applicable.

Essays

Between 5,000 and 9,000 words, including notes and references.

Between 1,500 and 2,500 words.

The editorial team may request reductions or other adjustments in length before the review process begins.

  4. Methodological design.

  • the results;
  • the contribution.

Essays must formulate a central thesis or argument, engage with relevant academic literature, and maintain consistency between the problem addressed, the argument developed, and the conclusions.

When no conflicts of interest or external funding exist, this must be explicitly stated.

14. Use of artificial intelligence

The use of generative artificial intelligence tools must be disclosed when such tools have contributed substantially to the writing, translation, data analysis, image generation, or preparation of other materials.

Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors.

Responsibility for the originality, accuracy, references, data, and overall content of the manuscript rests exclusively with the authors.

15. Editorial assessment and peer review

All manuscripts will initially undergo an editorial assessment based on:

  • thematic relevance;
  • originality;
  • academic quality;

Articles and essays that successfully pass this stage will be sent for external peer review under a double-anonymous review system.

Book reviews will be assessed by the editorial team, although external review may be requested when warranted by the nature of the submission.

Receipt of a manuscript does not imply acceptance.

The final publication decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team of Studia Politicæ.

Artículos

The Articles section publishes original, unpublished research in Political Science, International Relations, and related fields. Manuscripts must clearly formulate the research problem or question, present a relevant and up-to-date theoretical framework, explicitly describe the methodological design, systematically present the evidence, and develop conclusions that are consistent with the findings.

Articles should be between 6,000 and 10,000 words in length, including notes and references. Exceptionally, articles of up to 12,000 words may be considered when the additional length is duly justified by the nature of the work.

Manuscripts must include titles in both English and Spanish, an abstract of up to 200 words, and between four and six keywords in both Spanish and English. Manuscripts written in Portuguese must also include a title, abstract, and keywords in that language.

Citations and references must comply with the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual. Authors must ensure full correspondence between all in-text citations and the final reference list, and must include a DOI or a verifiable URL where applicable.

All manuscripts will initially undergo an editorial assessment of thematic relevance, academic quality, originality, theoretical and methodological consistency, and compliance with the journal’s formal requirements. Manuscripts that successfully pass this stage will be submitted to external peer review under a double-anonymous review system.

Receipt of a manuscript does not imply acceptance. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team of Studia Politicæ.

Editorial

The Editorial section includes institutional texts prepared or coordinated by the Editor-in-Chief, the editorial team, or guest editors of Studia Politicæ. Its purpose is to introduce regular or thematic issues, provide context for debates relevant to Political Science and International Relations, communicate editorial guidelines, and offer reflections related to the journal’s academic agenda.

Editorials are not accepted through open submissions and are not subject to external peer review. Their preparation and approval are the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief and the journal’s editorial team.

Editorial texts must maintain academic rigor, clarity of presentation, adequate substantiation, and compliance with the formal requirements of Studia Politicæ. When citations or references are included, they must comply with the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual.

The length of each editorial will be determined according to its purpose and the characteristics of the issue in which it is published.

Book Reviews

The Book Reviews section publishes critical assessments of recent books and other scholarly works relevant to Political Science, International Relations, and related fields. Contributions must accurately present the central content of the reviewed work, situate it within the relevant disciplinary debates, and provide a well-founded critical assessment of its contributions, limitations, and academic significance.

Reviews should not be limited to a chapter-by-chapter description or take the form of a promotional summary. They are expected to identify the main thesis of the work, reconstruct its central arguments, and assess its theoretical, methodological, or empirical contribution.

Reviews should preferably address works published within the previous three years and should be between 1,500 and 2,500 words in length, including notes and references.

The manuscript must include the complete bibliographic reference of the reviewed work, including the name of the author or authors, year of publication, title, place of publication, publisher, number of pages, and ISBN. A DOI or verifiable URL must be included where applicable.

Manuscripts must include titles in both Spanish and English. Any additional citations and references must comply with the 7th edition of the APA Publication Manual.

Receipt of a review does not imply acceptance. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team of Studia Politicæ.

Essays do not necessarily require a conventional empirical research design. However, they must explicitly state their analytical approach, justify the selection of authors, cases, sources, or theoretical traditions, and maintain consistency between the problem addressed, the argument developed, and the conclusions.

Manuscripts should be between 5,000 and 9,000 words in length, including notes and references. Exceptionally, longer manuscripts may be considered when the additional length is duly justified by the nature of the work.

All manuscripts will initially undergo an editorial assessment of thematic relevance, originality, argumentative strength, conceptual consistency, currency of the literature, and compliance with the journal’s formal requirements. Manuscripts that successfully pass this stage will be submitted to external peer review under a double-anonymous review system.

Receipt of a manuscript does not imply acceptance. The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the editorial team of Studia Politicæ.
